Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to embark on their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are rare.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party knows exactly where to head next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The traitor then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as key figures in the influential clan could enable the team enter areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them few options but to travel to the remote area in search of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

According to episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to form the Questers and Planners tables.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which characters will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
